History
Kuhmo Oy was founded in 1955 and sawmilling commenced in 1959.
Kuhmo Oy was founded by local people and entrepreneurs and it has stayed in local ownership ever since. Kuhmo Oy with it’s local owners and personnel has always felt the importance of it’s social responsibility as a provider of employment and wealth to both local people as well as enterprises.
Kuhmo Oy has produced timber in three different sites in its history, Kuhmo, Valtimo and Hyrynsalmi. Since 1986 the production has been concentrated in Kuhmo. From that year’s 90,000m3 Kuhmo Oy has grown into a company with a capacity of 350,000m3.
This was made possible with a circa 100 million Euro investment program. That includes two sawing lines which have totally changed piece handling lines for unseasoned and dry timber and kiln drying. Another important part is the considerable bio-energy investments for creating heat and electricity from our by-products and the production of solid bio fuel, briquette from sawdust.
