Kuhmo Oy is committed to ecologically, socially and economically viable forestry. The prosperity of Kuhmo and the whole region of Kainuu, has always been strongly related to forests. Its well being and growth is vital, not only to Kuhmo Oy but to the whole economic area.
Kuhmo Oy considers that the environmental and conservation needs of the area are of paramount importance and as such takes these into account when looking at its operations – a Senior Director has the responsibility for overseeing this function. The majority of the raw material we use comes from local forests. Forestry and the use of forests are guided by ecological principles. A large proportion of Finland’s preserved forests is in the area of Kuhmo and Kainuu.

In Kuhmo we produce almost all timber products from standard sizes to tailor made products in compliance with customer requirements. In addition to this we can offer processed goods in co-operation with local woodworking companies.
We supply competitive products to almost all woodworking sectors. Apart from the important domestic market we are also well represented in Western Europe, North Africa and Far East.

Forestry

Kuhmo Oy is the largest forestry company in Kainuu. We use the two main species of the local forests, pine 80% and spruce 20%. Our main suppliers are state forests and local private forest owners. We are often the sole buyer to many forest owners as we can use up to 90% of commercially harvested round wood. This is made possible by our investment into sawing equipment capable of handling small size round wood coming from thinning operations and tops of trees.

Kuhmo Oy is a dynamic, internationally operating private sawmill. Our commitment is in providing high quality products to match customer’s needs with full compliance with environmental sustainability requirements and certification.

Our raw material, pine and spruce, grow in the tough northern climate providing dense and slow grown timber. It is best northern raw material coming from the sustainably maintained forests of Kainuu. Timber is a natural product that can be used as bio fuel at the end of its usage.

Our product is identified by the URSUS shipping mark. The slow grown and beautiful wood from Kuhmo is most suitable for interior decoration as well as joinery and furniture production. The strength properties are also excellent for its use in structural and load bearing applications.
